What are ceramic implants?

Dental implants are one of the most common procedures in our Bowmanville dental office for replacing lost teeth. Dental implants are great for people who have missing or damaged teeth.

With age and time, there is an increasing number of people with missing teeth.  Removable dentures are not the best option especially for patients in their 20’s and 30’s and looking for a more permanent option becomes appealing.

What are ceramic dental implants?

Dental Implants are placed in the spaces of missing teeth and become fused to the jaw bone acting to replace the space of missing teeth. Once the implant heals , an implant acts to replace the tooth in virtually the same position as before.

Why choose ceramic dental implants?

Ceramic dental implants also known as metal-free zirconia implants came to the U.S. market in 2011. They have been in use since the 90’s more predominantly in Europe.

One concern with dental implants made of titanium is possible corrosion. There are a small few that are also allergic to certain components in titanium dental implants which do contain alloy mixtures.

Ceramic dental implants are a uniform white color and the gums tend to interact well with the ceramics which tend to be less at risk for bleeding or swelling.  Since the implants are one piece in design, there are no parts for potential bacteria or food to get trapped in.

At our Bowmanville dental office, we offer ceramic dental implants. Studies have shown that patients’ gums tend to interact much more favourably with ceramic, and are thus not at a risk for bleeding or swelling. Cleaning and maintenance is much easier as well with these types of implants, and given their unique, one-piece design, patients don’t need to worry about the potential development of bacterial infections in the jawbone.

If you’re weighing the options of the two types of implants, let our Bowmanville dentists walk you through the different options available. Contact our office today !
