Local Anesthetic

Applied at the site of implant treatment, local anesthetic will block sensations of pain or discomfort. Often, this is used in conjunction with another form of sedation dentistry.

As with any time you are in our office, we’ll ensure that you are feeling comfortable for the duration of your procedure, and will monitor your vital signs making adjustments as necessary.

For more information please contact our office at 905-697-1118 to discuss your needs with one of our West Bowmanville Family Dental team members.

Nitrous Oxide

Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is applied over the nose during dental implant surgery. The gas is fast-acting and will make you feel calmer during your treatment. Once surgery is over, we can remove the mask and you will quickly return to normal.

For more information please contact our office at 905-697-1118 to discuss your needs with one of our West Bowmanville Family Dental team members.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For dentistry performed under oral sedation, West Bowmanville Family Dental will prescribe an oral sedative for you to take prior to your appointment, so you’ll be feeling relaxed by the time you sit down in the exam room. We may also provide you with laughing gas—or nitrous oxide—during your appointment as a way to enhance the calming effects of the oral sedative. As with any time you are in our office, we’ll ensure that you’re feeling comfortable the entire time, and will monitor your vital signs so we can make adjustments as necessary.

IV Conscious Sedation

For dentistry performed under intravenous or IV conscious sedation, West Bowmanville Family Dental will administer a powerful sedative via an IV, meaning you’ll feel completely calm and relaxed during the procedure—and often times will not be able to remember anything about the procedure after it’s done. You’ll be in a “twilight” state where you’re able to respond to requests and answer questions—for example, you’ll be able to move your head to the left if the dentist needs you to, or will be able to verbally confirm that you’re not feeling any pain—but will be completely relaxed. Should you elect to receive IV conscious sedation, you’ll want to make plans to have a friend or family member drive you home, and you’ll want to hold off on activities until the next day when the anesthesia is completely out of your system.
