What defines the perfect smile? Our smiles are as unique as each one of us, but there are a few key criteria that we look for in any smile makeover case.

Here are some of the elements we look for in the design of any smile makeover.

Straight teeth are certainly more attractive to look at but also are easier to maintain which leads to a healthier mouth.

We sometimes get a request from patients for a gap between the upper central front teeth which they may view as unique.  For most patients however, a cosmetic makeover case should show no noticeable gaps or spaces between teeth and there should be no appearances of spaces or gaps between the teeth, rather the area should be filled with healthy gum tissue.

This is the point of reference where the two front teeth of the mouth meet.  This point should coincide with an imaginary central line that divides your face into the left and right sides when you smile.  For some patients their lower teeth may be shifted slightly to the left or right naturally, so we elect to restore their midline matching their facial symmetry first.

In general, both sides of your mouth should be mirror images of each other, however perfection is in the eye of the beholder so we often do add imperfections to the case as per patient’s requests.  Digital Smile Design with the use of temporary mockups can help us predict your final end goal as we work together with our ceramic technician.

A healthy and attractive smile also tends to involve healthy white teeth.  The shade of your teeth often will depend on other factors including diet, ethnic background, skin tone and we often recommend a custom shade to be taken to find the perfect shade for you !

Healthy gums accompany a bright and healthy mouth so proper oral hygiene is important.  Gums tend to show when people smile especially in younger patients so ensuring your gums are not inflamed or red is important.

The lips or lip line especially the upper part of your lower lip should be parallel to your smile line.  This gives us generally healthy proportions that make an attractive smile ! The lip line , and shape of teeth should also complement each other.
