What is a CT scan for dental implants?

CT scans also known as cat scans are used in cases of complex dental implant procedures or where there have been teeth missing for a number of years. A CT scan allows us to see your jaw in 3D. Regular dental x-rays taken at the dental office are 2D and are good for seeing things like cavities and basic every day procedures.

Regular dental x-rays tell us how tall the bone is, but it can’t tell us how wide the bone is. CT scans also allow us to plan a case ahead of time so we know which implant sizes and in which areas they will be placed while avoiding important anatomy, sinus areas, nerves etc.

When you arrive for your dental implant consultation in Bowmanville, we may request a CT scan if your case requires it. We invite you to come in to discuss how we can help improve your smile !
